The Illusion of Time
Exams are over for this year and now it's time to knuckle down and get The Illusion of Time finished. I've been dancing around this thing for too long now. I've made a commitment to myself and to you, that I'll have this completed by the end of the summer, so the pressure is on. But that's ok, no better motivator than a deadline. Whatever happens, those of you who have pre-purchased will get your hands on the first formal draft in PDF and hard copy. Here I've revised the foreword (Is Time Real?). I'm also rewriting other Chapters. Sign up to Sunday Letters if you haven't already to stay up to date.
Author's Foreword – Is Time Real?
Is Time Real? I'm afraid you'll have to be the judge of that for yourself.
This book won't tell you to believe in anything in particular – in fact it's quite the opposite. I'd hope that you'll be moved to question and doubt everything.
What the pages of this book will offer you is one person's experience. That, coupled with philosophical reasoning, psychology, history and science will attempt to show you an alternative reality.
This book is a real labour of love, fascination and intrigue for me it must be said, upon which I have been working for some time now on and off.
I don’t believe my ideas are unique. There are many people far more qualified than I to talk about the nature of time and space.
However I feel compelled enough for some reason or other to get these notions down on paper and share with the world.
Please bear in mind that these ideas are fundamentally strong, but are a work in progress and are subject to editing before final publication.
The chapter titles and arrangement are likely to change too.
So, you get this material in somewhat of a raw form here and in pre-releases.
About The Author
So, a bit of information on me first maybe…
I am a 42 years old at the time of writing and I have been a businessman since age 25. I'm a husband and father to 3 wonderful children.
I am a writer and a thinker. I am a student of psychology, eventually intent on completing my Masters and possibly a Doctorate if I feel sufficiently energised to do so.
I’m not a scientist (yet) but I believe I can bring a lay perspective to this popular subject and maybe it will make a difference to your understanding.
Time, space, the nature of reality and of human existence has always interested me, hence my current field of study.
There have been many who have influenced my thought, not least James Allen, Alan Watts, Deepak Chopra, Eckhart Tolle, R. Buckminster Fuller and many others.
I continue to study other people's work as well as take influence from my environment private observation.
Where It All Started
The instigator of all of this has been a notion that came up quietly on me one day in 2011. A series of realisations that came on me gradually, when coupled together spurred a thought.
The only way I can describe my personal discovery, which it must be said on the level of universal scientific groundbreaking discoveries wasn’t earth shattering, after all I wasn’t the first to discover this, was mind blowing.
I wrote the original article on a whim without any research other than what I felt internally. The original published article was pretty shit I must admit, and I have since refined my thoughts somewhat.
However the basic principle remains the same – time is an illusion.
I am an electrician by trade and during my training (almost 30 years ago now) I studied the fundamentals of magnetism and electrical science.
This fundamental scientific training I suppose gave me some basis to explore this idea of no-time further.
It was groundbreaking for me. In an instant it became completely obvious that all there is, is now. Clichéd I know, but that's what I felt.
Over the subsequent years I realised everything moves through this very moment of perception. Events are held in memory. Memory is a right now cognitive process.
I wanted to know more.
Electrons & Black Holes
I began to look at this from the perspective of the electron.
Imagining the flow of current down the electric cable and the apparent time it took for the current to apparently flow from zero to peak positive, back to zero and through to peak negative and then back to zero again.
I then realised then, that even this idea was flawed.
Electric current flow wasn’t moving left to right in a straight line through three dimensional space like the oscilloscope was showing me, but rather it was spinning like a corkscrew in 360 degrees around a center…
A Black Hole!
I realised that eventually that electron would be devoured by the black hole and reemerge again somewhere else in the space time continuum.
This was the nature of things and it was all happening now. I can only explain what I felt as a sudden and immediate expansion of my mind.
Sounds really pretentious doesn’t it? Well that’s how it was.
I began to explore quantum physics. I wanted to know more about matter, energy, time and space and how it all fit together. When I found the double slit experiment I just had to smile.
Of course! I thought – consciousness is the basis of all matter.
Dealing With Negative Comments
After about 18 months the article on wokenmind caught fire. Comments were coming in thick and fast and I was somewhat surprised because I never planned it that way.
I knew very little about SEO or online article writing so I had no idea how people were finding my writing. I just needed to get my ideas out of my head. Websites all over the web were sampling the article and adding it to their own.
Most of them thankfully giving me a backlink. I’m sure others were not doing so but hey, when you write online you take a chance that your content will be plagiarised by others. I consider it a compliment so no big deal.
There was some negative commentary but not much. One guy in particular sought me out on Facebook and proceeded to slate me and my ideas to the best of his ability.
Not surprisingly with trolls he failed to reveal his identity and upon further investigation I found that abuse of others was a common thread in all his online contributions.
After some initial disturbance for me I put it down to experience and forgot about it.
A Big Name Advocate!
Aside from that the response to the article was very positive and produced some really interesting conversations between various commenters. People were emailing me directly with comments and messages of thanks which was very nice.
Currently there are 103 comments and traffic to the article is still strong.
In early 2016 additional traffic began flooding in via the Dr. Joe Dispenza Facebook page and I realised that the appetite for this content was significantly high.
I did some searching on Google and lo and behold there’s my article on the top of Google for “does time exist” search term. As of today it’s sitting about 4th in the results.
It was then I decided I needed to expand on these ideas into a book. Further research and reading was required so since then I have been digesting tons of content in effort to backup my ideas.
I needed to get up to speed with concrete scientific data, psychology, philosophy, spiritual thought and reasoning, anthropology and many other disciplines in order to offer you a substantial and acceptable account of the nature of time and space.
One that excluded pseudoscience and over simplified popular junk notions.
So that’s where I am currently.
It’s 1st May 2017.
