Are You Part of The Unemployable Generation?
You know, when you consider the term unemployable, you might consider successive generations of people sitting on their arse all day waiting for their dole.
Socially deprived cities of people stuck with their hand out, unaware they could do better, conditioned to sit and do nothing for a meager living.
And although that might be one end of the spectrum, that's not what I'm talking about here.
In this regard, the unemployable generation are highly skilled, highly self motivated, capable people.
They are very proactive, energised men and women who stop at nothing to produce their best simply for the sake of it.
Waiting for permission is not their bag, they are doers.
They are in large part born of an entrepreneurial spirit, incapable of following other people's lead.
Instead it's they who provide the lead.
They come to the table with the raw energy and passion and find it's others that follow them.
Sound like you?
Part Of The Team
I'm not talking about people eager to please bosses.
The unemployable generation are not arse kissers, running around like headless chickens, consuming time management articles like they're going out of fashion.
These people are not the typical team player, simply happy to be wearing the t-shirt.
However they are a team player.
They work well as part of a larger dynamic, but they need to make their own decisions. They need autonomy.
Right now in the world the system of education and work trains people to follow the rules, to read the script and don't ask too many questions.
It's been that way for a long time.
Large organisations, even the most progressive modern businesses are slowed by processes and rules. There's a manual for working and you'd better follow it.
Sorry lads, that's not for me.

Breaking The Momentum
This morning I sat having a coffee about 08:45 near where I work, and I watched the usual waves of people hurrying to cubicles in office blocks here in the city.
All anxiously scurrying along to reach their desk by 09:00, willing and able to do what they are told, to follow the rules.
This is our society, this is how we've built it. We follow it blindly and we train our kids to do the same thing.
Are you one of these?
I mean you no disrespect, but in reality you're merely fulfilling someone else's dreams, you know that right?
Now, as long as you do that's OK. You might be biding your time, building something else on the side.
And if you are I commend you.
You are truly one of the Unemployable Generation.
Feeling The Urge For Change
If you've made it this far into the article then maybe you are not one of these robotic people, happy to have a job and a title.
Or if you are part of that system, then maybe you've been nudged towards a change. That's cool – follow it!
Back in 2000 I was uneasy and eager to do my own thing. I wanted out of the machine, I wanted to make my own decisions.
So I ventured out and formed my own little business of one.
The sense of freedom was exciting and wonderful, but not everyone saw it like I did.
Parent's warned me against the pending doom and stress of being self employed, but nothing was going to stop me.
I think it's important to follow those urges even though we don't know where they'll take us. In that I believe there are important things for us to find.
Once we go down that road of self employed, freelancer or whatever you'd like to call it, there's no going back.
From that day on we become unemployable.
In fact, it's more accurate to say we become unemployable well before the point we jump ship. The move just verifies it.
Aspire To Be Part Of The Unemployable Generation
Every generation has a subset of people who are unemployable, it's not a recent phenomena. However I do believe it's gaining ground.
You don't need to be a big shot entrepreneur, employing hundreds or thousands to qualify here.
You just need to be willing to break out of the standard working model for life, say fuck it and do your own thing.
In fact the more small scale operations that exist in the world, then the better and more stable our society is.
Imagine if the move towards bigger and bigger corporations continued?
There would be nothing except one massive conglomerate of companies all singing the same boring tune.
Fuck that!
Be an artist, express your creativity, be your own boss even if you happen to work for someone right now.
Set your sights on doing your own thing, make great stuff and offer it to the world for no other reason than for the sake of it.
Become part of the unemployable generation.
