Time becomes apparent by virtue of memory, without memory there is no time. Its like a phantom.
The sense of time is a psychological disorder in humans. It’s our modern day equivalent of the flat earth idea from earlier times. The truth of the matter is there is no time in fundamental reality, it is only a concept, an arbitrary notion that allows us organise and measure our actions and experiences.
Time becomes apparent by virtue of memory, without memory there is no time. Its like a phantom.
Trouble is we believe in the phantom. We give this non existent thing reality, and then worship it. It’s fucking crazy stuff.
Time is like any other system of measurement, such as those based on the metric system, they’re just ideas.
In reality all there is is a single eternal moment that we all drift in and out of, cycling like the seasons forever. Physical reality is fine, it can be fun, or not, we get to choose that. We’ve got to live for now because that’s all there is.
TELL me not, in mournful numbers, Life is but an empty dream! For the soul is dead that slumbers, And things are not what they seem.
Life is real ! Life is earnest! And the grave is not its goal ; Dust thou art, to dust returnest, Was not spoken of the soul.
From A Psalm For Life by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
